How deposits and refunds actually work
When you borrow an item with a suggested deposit set, the deposit and the rental fee are charged together, in one Razorpay payment, at the moment the owner approves your request.
That deposit isn't revenue for the owner or for RentiGo — it's held against the booking. Once the owner marks the booking as completed, meaning the item came back in the condition it left in, the deposit is refunded automatically. Nobody has to remember to process it, and nobody has to chase anybody for it.
If there's a dispute about the item's condition, that's between the owner and the borrower to work out directly — the same as it would be if you'd borrowed it informally over WhatsApp. RentiGo's job is to make the money part automatic and transparent, not to arbitrate disagreements about a scratched casing.
One practical tip: owners, set a deposit that actually reflects replacement cost, not a token amount. A ₹50 deposit on a ₹4,000 item doesn't protect anyone and just adds a step for no real reason.
